Unlock The GSM iPhone 4S With An iOS 5 Bug [No Jailbreak/Extra Hardware Required]

Today I have some good news for all of you wishing to unlock on the iOS 5 firmware. According to OSXDaily you can unlock the GSM iPhone 4S by taking advantage of a strange iOS 5 bug that effects how the Edge network (the data network supported by the first-gen iPhone) is handled. In case you have never heard of the term unlocking before, it basically means you can break the restriction of your current carrier and use your iPhone 4S on the GSM carrier of your choice.


Numerous people have already exploited this bug and have been able to unlock their AT&T iPhone 4S for use with the T-Mobile carrier. People with older versions of the iPhone, and those people wishing to unlock on other carriers besides T-Mobile may be able to do so. As this method is just being publicized (and due to the fact that we have not tested this method), however, I am not able to confirm whether it will work or not.
If you are interested in trying to unlock your iPhone 4S on the iOS 5 firmware by exploiting this iOS 5 bug you can follow the How To guide below at your own risk.

Unlock iPhone With iOS 5 Bug

Step 1) - Insert your original carrier’s SIM card (AT&T SIM).

Step 2) - Dial 611 for AT&T customer service hotline and drop the call.

Step 3) - Next go into the Settings.app and turn on Airplane Mode.

Step 4) - When Airplane Mode is enabled you will need to take out your SIM card (AT&T SIM).

Step 5) - Insert other carrier’s SIM card (T-Mobile SIM).

Step 6) - Go back into the Settings.app and ensure that you turn WiFi off ( also tap on ‘Forget this Network” to all shown networks to make sure it doesn’t connect automatically later).

Step 7) - Now switch off Airplane Mode and iPhone will search for network. When a network has been found, an Apple splash screen will appear. Activation required will be displayed on this splash screen.

Step 8 ) - You will notice an EDGE network will activate automatically – notice the ‘E’ on the top left corner of the screen.

Step 9) - After you notice this E icon appear in the top left hand corner of your screen you will need to wait for about 20-30 seconds and then turn off the iPhone.

Step 10) - When your iPhone is off, you will need to turn it back on and the same Activation Required screen will be displayed.

Step 11) - Once your iPhone is turned back on, when you see one signal bar, tap on Use Cellular Connection.

Step 12) - After tapping this button Eject your SIM card and you will notice the Activation Required screen will be displayed again.

Step 13) - When you see this screen, insert your SIM card again and you will be unlocked on the iOS 5 firmware! Congratulations.

Hackers Crack open Siri’s Protocol to use on any Device including Androids, Macs and PCs

Siri is to Apple what Kinect is to Microsoft. It’s fun, it’s natural and has a great social and, technical potential in it. Hackers are loving to play with it, we have already seen it ported to iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad and iPod Touch and still talking to Apple’s servers just perfectly and even working with app store apps. But there’s more to that, the ever adventurous hackers are not stopping there and amazing guys from Applidium have gone deep into the science behind Siri. In their adventure of knowing about Siri, they managed to crack open Siri’s protocol and understand how it works, converts voice to text, talks to Apple’s servers and almost everything else.

Apple folks have been clever enough to take every measure to make sure that nobody ever gets his hands on Siri’s protocol. The HTTP requests which Siri makes to Apple’s server are not only secure (i.e HTTPS) but also in binary (whoa!!) so that no human ever understands them, but they did add some texts like a word bplist00 and that’s where Applidium folks got the clue that the content of the HTTP header was actually a plist in binary format. The rest was easy, they translated the binary plists using ‘plutil’ command-line tool for Mac and CFPropertyList with Ruby.

During the course of their Siri conquer, the interesting stuff they found was that address of Apple’s Siri server was guzzoni.apple.com and the length of the content Siri communicates could be as big as 2GB. Siri doesn’t even understand your voice locally, rather sends raw audio data to Apple’s servers and gets the recognized text in return.

After their huge success with understanding Siri’s protocol, Applidium guys have gone ahead to write some tools which any developer can use to write Siri enabled apps on ANY platform. Yes, I mean it! Their tools are written in Ruby, C and Objective C and developers can use them to write Apps for Android, Mac OS and other platforms. For starters, these apps would rip off Siri’s functionality by taking voice commands from a user, translate them to text with iPhone 4S’ perfection and reply to those commands exactly as Siri would, as they would actually connect to Apple’s Siri servers. This all is very exciting with only one complication that a unique iPhone 4S ID (UDID) is checked by Apple’s servers before it replies to Siri queries. In theory a single iPhone 4S UDID can be used on multiple devices to ditch Siri servers but Apple can always block a specific UDID if they find a suspicious behavior.

Applidium guys have created a demo Speech recognition which according to them was done by Apple’s Siri servers without ever going through an iPhone 4S.


PS, no jailbreak was involved in all of this Siri hack!

Update 1: Applidium has released the tools for Siri’s development on all platforms. Grab them on their GitHub.

Update 2: Just a reminder that hackers already had success using custom commands in Siri, reverse engineering of Siri protocol would open new doors to such interesting things.

Update 3: There’s an amazing possibility! In theory, a private Siri server can also be built if one can run a voice recognition system on it. Custom commands + private Siri server = problem solved!

Any OSx86 installation guide can seem daunting at first glance, especially when trying to remember cryptic terminal commands and sorting through volumes of misinformation on the web.  This guide requires no coding, terminal work, or Mac experience of any kind.  You will not need access to a Mac.  In fact, it's easier and faster for me to install Snow Leopard with fully working components on my system than it is to install Windows 7.  And more fun.

The iBoot + MultiBeast method is designed and tested for any desktop or laptop running the latest line of Intel processors, the Core i3/i5/i7s.  I have had reports of success with older machines as well including CoreDuo, Core2Duo, and even Pentium 4.  However, AMD processors are not supported.

YOU WILL NEED

  • A computer running an Intel Processor
  • A blank CD
  • An Account in  tonymacx86 Forum
  • A Mac OS X Snow Leopard Retail DVD
  • To leave any fear of your computer at the door.
  • Patience and humility- it may not work out perfectly the first time- but with enough tenacity and grit, you'll reach the promised land.  It's easy to get frustrated, but don't give up!  There are a community of users with similar hardware in the tonymacx86 Forum to provide support if you get stuck.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
  • If you have greater than 4gb of RAM, remove the extra RAM for a maximum of 4gb.  You can put back any extra RAM in after the installation process.
  • Use only 1 graphics card in the 1st PCIe slot with 1 monitor plugged in.
  • Remove any hard drives besides the blank drive being used for OS X.
  • Remove any USB peripherals besides keyboard and mouse.
  • Remove any PCI cards besides graphics- they may not be Mac compatible.
  • If using a Gigabyte 1156 board, use the blue Intel SATA ports- not the white Gigabyte SATA ports.
  • It's best to use an empty hard drive- you will have to partition and format the drive. 
  • Always back up any of your important data.
STEP 1: BIOS SETTINGS
You will need to set your BIOS to ACHI mode and your Boot Priority to boot from CD-ROM first.  This is the most important step, and one many people overlook.  Make sure your bios settings match these.  It's not difficult- the only thing I did on my Gigabyte board besides setting Boot Priority to CD/DVD first was set Optimized Defaults, change SATA to AHCI mode, and set HPET to 64-bit mode.

STEP 2: INSTALL MAC OS X 

In order to boot the Mac OS X Retail DVD, you'll need to download and burn iBoot.  For desktops and laptops using unsupported Intel CPUs and graphics, a legacy version of iBoot can be downloaded here.
  1. Download iBoot
  2. Burn the image to CD
  3. Place iBoot in CD/DVD drive
  4. Restart computer
  5. At boot prompt, eject iBoot

  6. Insert your Mac OS X Snow Leopard Retail DVD and press F5
  7. When you see the screen below, press enter to begin the boot process
  8. When you get to the installation screen, open Utilities/Disk Utility.  NOTE: If you cannot get to the installation screen, retry from Step 4, type PCIRootUID=1 before hitting enter. If that doesn't work then try PCIRootUID=1 -x or just -x which will enter Mac OS X Safe Mode and will allow you to proceed. For some graphics cards, use GraphicsEnabler=No boot flag to proceed. 
  9. Partition your hard drive to GUID Partition Table
  10. Format your hard drive to Mac OS Extended (Journaled).   NOTE: The bootloader can only boot from a disk or partition of 1 TB or less.  Partition larger drives.
  11. For the purposes of this guide, name it Snow Leopard.  You can rename it later.
  12. Close Disk Utility
  13. When the installer asks you where to install, choose Snow Leopard
  14. Choose Customize‚ and uncheck additional options.  This will hasten the install process.  You can always install this stuff later.
  15. Restart computer.
  16. Place iBoot back in drive.
  17. When you get to the boot selection screen, choose your new Snow Leopard installation.
  18. View the super-cool Mac OS X Snow Leopard Welcome Video, and set up your computer!

STEP 3: UPDATE TO 10.6.8
  1. Open Finder and navigate to your Snow Leopard drive.
  2. Right-click and delete Mac OS X Install Folder.  This folder is an unnecessary remnant of the installation process, and serves no purpose.
  3. Download the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Combo Update
  4. Download MultiBeast
  5. Open MultiBeast- don't run it yet, just leave it open.  Set up windows as shown.
  6. Mount MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.8.dmg
  7. Install MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.8.pkg
  8. Upon completion, the installer will ask you to reboot.  DO NOT REBOOT.
  9. Switch to the already open MultiBeast.  If it closes, just re-open it.
STEP 4: MULTIBEAST
MultiBeast is an all-in-one post-installation tool designed to enable boot from hard drive, and install support for Audio, Network, and Graphics. It contains two different complete post-installation solutions: EasyBeast and UserDSDT.  In addition it includes System Utilities to rebuild caches and repair permissions and a collection of drivers, boot loaders, boot time config files and handy software.

Choose one of the following options directly following a fresh installation and update:  

EasyBeast is a DSDT-free solution for any Core/Core2/Core i system. It installs all of the essentials to allow your system to boot from the hard drive. Audio, Graphics and Network will have to be enabled separately.  

UserDSDT is a bare-minimum solution for those who have their own pre-edited DSDT. Place your DSDT.aml on the desktop before install. Audio, Graphics and Network will have to be enabled separately.  HINT: Check the DSDT Database for a pre-edited DSDT.
  1. Run MultiBeast.
  2. If you have a custom DSDT that's been edited, place the file on your desktop and choose UserDSDT.
  3. All others select EasyBeast 
  4. Select System Utilities.
  5. Optionally, you may install further drivers via Advanced Options to enable ethernet, sound, graphics, etc...  Be sure to read the documentation provided about each installation option.  NOTE: EasyBeast, and UserDSDT install the bootloader by default, so you'll not need to check that option.     
  6. Install to Snow Leopard- it should take about 4 minutes to run scripts.
  7. Eject iBoot.
  8. Reboot- from your new Snow Leopard installation drive.
Congratulations!  You're done!!

Your PC is now fully operational, while running the latest version of Mac OS X Snow Leopard!  And you have a nice Boot CD to get into your system in case things go awry.  Boot your system from iBoot if you have issues.  You may run MultiBeast as often as you like.

If you can't boot, try typing -x at the boot prompt to enter safe mode, or just boot with iBoot.  When you get to the desktop, you can make all of the changes you need to.  The best way to start fresh is delete whatever you're trying to get rid of- including the whole /Extra folder, as most kexts are installed there.  Then you can re-run MultiBeast.  As long as you rebuild caches and repair permissions after you're done, you can do just about anything you want to /Extra/Extensions and /System/Library/Extensions.  Anything can be tweaked and enabled upon subsequent uses of MultiBeast.

  • Get the Victim’s Facebook Profile Link, which is not so hard.
  • Their Email ID which they use on Facebook.
  • Their Date of Birth, This is the hard part of the trick, But should somehow  manage to get their DOB.
  • Create an Email ID having the Victim’s complete name in it, like Jorge-Bush12345@gmail.com (If the victim’s full name is Jorge Bush).

  • Now ask any of your friend/friends who is a mutual friend in your rival’s account to report your rival’s profile as spam.
  • You will get a mail after few days on the email ID you created which is similiar to the Victim’s email ID after your report was gone through a manual review. Explain them that you lost the access to your Facebook account and the Email ID associated with it. And try to convince them that a hacker may be using your account now and also making damage to your personality.
  • After this they may ask you for more explanations or if they feel your reply as acceptable, They will delete the account and will mail you as “Your account has been successfully deleted from Facebook, Create a new one from here”.

Chpwn: "Sorry Guys! No Siri for You!"

A couple of days ago, hacker Chpwn published a video on his Twitter account showing that he had finally ported Siri to the iPod Touch and iPhone 4 with Siri functioning normally. News hyped up with all the tech blogs reporting this, and it was being hoped that soon, Siri will be released for other iOS devices.

I have bad news for those users hoping that they will be able to port Siri on non-iPhone 4S devices. Non-iPhone 4S devices will not be getting Siri anytime soon.



Chpwn explained the reason for not releasing Siri for non-iPhone 4S devices in a blog post:

"Apple owns the copyright on the software, images, and data used inside iOS: they created them. Because of that, they have the ability to decide what other people can — are licensed to — do with them: copy, distribute, adapt, modify, or any number of other protections of their works. Pretty simple. But this does lead to one important, if somewhat counterintuitive, fact: just because a piece of data is available freely on the internet does not mean that you have the rights to redistribute that data (or any part of it) without an applicable license. In practice, that means that just because certain files are freely available on a device or inside a firmware (.ispw) file freely downloadable from Apple’s website, it does not imply that those files can legally be distributed by anyone else.

In the context of Siri, this means that the resource files, images, and code that makes up Siri cannot be freely shared. These frameworks and plugins that work together to build Siri are not included on other iOS builds besides the ones running on the iPhone 4S. Therefore, these files must be copied from a running iPhone 4S, or from the iPhone 4S’s firmware (.ipsw) file. The first method requires you to own an iPhone 4S to copy the files from, so it is not useful for most people: if you already own an iPhone 4S, you already have Siri. The issue with the second method is more technical: the firmware files are distributed encrypted, and we do not yet have the decryption key to access the Siri files inside of the iPhone 4S firmware file.

Just from that, you currently must already own an iPhone 4S to install Siri on it without a blatant copyright violation. But even that’s not all: if you do all of that, there’s still a few more reasons why Siri won’t just work.

Many people have managed to display the Siri UI on the iPhone 4; it is, in fact, reasonably trivial with access to the files copied off an iPhone 4S (as explained above). But only Steven and myself — yes, I know there are others that claim to have: I’ll tell you this, they haven’t — have managed to make Siri successfully contact the Apple servers and receive responses. Why? Here, the answers become slightly more murky. Partially this is because I don’t want to reveal too much about the procedure to try and ensure that you all will be able to use it in the future, and partially because it requires a jailbroken iPhone 4S, something which is currentlynot publicly available. Anyway, the general gist of it is that you almost certainly need the access provided by the a jailbreak to extract all of the information necessary to get Siri working on another device, and that’s not yet availble. (And, no, I don’t know when it will be. You can follow along with me while we wait, though!)

Anyway, I hope that clears up some of the technical and legal reasons why distributing a build (or instructions) to run Siri on older hardware isn’t possible at the moment. When we have the ability to decrypt the encrypted iPhone 4S firmware file — to extract the Siri files legally, without the need for an iPhone 4S — and we have an iPhone 4S jailbreak to obtain the other nececssary information at a mass scale, hopefully this can become a reality and everyone can try out Siri on their older devices. Until then, showing you a video that it is possible is the best we can do."

I hope that Chpwn will be able to find another solution to port Siri to other iOS devices without having to cross Apple’s licenses.
